A few days ago, California passed a new law that will require oil and gas drillers to drill with hydraulic fracking in the state to face new regulations, including the need for drillers to disclose the chemicals used in the
hydraulic fracturing process.
Under the bill, the California government is required to complete risk assessments for hydraulic fracturing and other technologies, such as the use of acids to frack oil-rich rock
, by January 2015.
The Act requires drillers to seek permits and notify nearby land users before drilling
.
The bill also requires the state government website to publish the names
of chemicals used in fracking.
Nearby landowners will have the opportunity to test
the quality of water in wells before and after hydraulic fracturing technology is adopted.
