Xinjiang Institute of Physics and Chemical Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed a silicone polymer sponge material and studied the feasibility
of this material for the separation of oil-water mixtures.
Researchers use cheap commercial non-fluorinated organosilane as the main raw material to prepare ternary siloxane sponges
by controlling the hydrolysis and gelation process of silanes.
Compared with the traditional siloxane sponge, the surface of the ternary system sponge contains a large number of non-polar groups and high roughness, which gives the material superhydrophobic and super-lipophilic effect, can adsorb its own 6~14 times the quality of organic solvents and many oil compounds, and has excellent mechanical properties, and the permanent deformation rate of the material is less than 25% under 15 times of 80%
compression deformation.
