The European Union intends to revise the limits of certain chemical substances in the Toy Safety Directive
On September 9, the European Commission issued Circular G/TBT/N/EU/231 to adopt limit values for specific chemical substances in toys and to issue draft amendments to Schedule C
of Annex Π of the European Parliament and of the Commission Directive 2009/48/EC on the safety of toys 。 The specific amendments are mainly aimed at the limit value
of 3:1 mixing ratio of phenol, formamide, 1.
2 benzisothiazolin-3 ketone (BIT) and 5-chloro-2-methyl-4 isothiazolin-3 one (CMI) and 2-methyl-4 isothiazolin-3 one (MI) in children's toys or other toys that may be put in the mouth of children.
The deadline for comments on the circular is 60 days after the issuance of the circular, with a date of approval in the first quarter of 2015 and an effective date of the first quarter
of 2016.
