WACKER recently presented an innovative dispersion for waterborne intumescent fireproof coatings
at the China Annual Conference on Fire and High Temperature Technologies in Qingdao.
This fireproof coating can "wrap" the building steel beams and form a thermal barrier for a certain period of time in the event of a fire, prolonging the stability time of the
building's load-bearing structure.
AS A BASE MATERIAL, THE NEW VINNAPAS? EZ 3066 dispersion is not only foam-formed and stable, but also has improved adhesion and strength, allowing the protective layer to adhere firmly to the substrate
.
VINNAPAS? EZ 3066 dispersion is a new binder developed by WACKER for intumescent fire-retardant coatings based on vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer dispersion that offers excellent foam forming and expansion properties, as well as long-lasting foam stability, while improving the adhesion and strength of intumescent coatings and ensuring a protective layer that adheres firmly to the substrate
.
Without the addition of binder, the foam layer becomes too brittle to adhere well to the steel substrate and does not meet the requirements
for flame retardant coatings.
It has shown excellent performance in fire tests: the expanded coating thickness is more than 50 times the original thickness, fully reaching the F90 fire rating, and can reach F120
under certain formulations.
In addition, this low-odor water-based binder does not contain any additives such as organic solvents or plasticizers, and does not use alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO)-containing materials in the production process, making it suitable for formulating a new generation of environmentally friendly and healthy waterborne coatings
.
