On August 14, the European Union published Amendment (EU) No 895/2014 to the REACH regulation, requiring nine substances, including formaldehyde and aniline, arsenic acid, diethylene glycol dimethyl ether, 1,2-dichloroethane, 4,4'-diamino-3,3'-dichlorodiphenylmethane, chromium chromate, strontium chromate, zinc potassium hydroxide and zinc chromate hydroxide to be included in
the "List of Substances to be Authorized" in Annex 14 of the REACH regulation.
The reason for the inclusion of these nine substances in the EU is that they pose carcinogenic hazards
.
If these substances of very high concern are eventually included in the Annex 14 Authorisation List, manufacturers, formulators and importers of the products concerned will have to submit an authorisation application to the European Chemicals Agency in order for the listed substances to remain on the EU market
.
