DSM introduces high-temperature resistant polyamide
DSM (DSM) has launched the first high-temperature polyamide Stanyl?Diablo OCD 2305 BM
for blow molded pipes.
Affected by the 2015 emission reduction target set by the EU law, cars and their engines are becoming increasingly
downsized.
However, neither metal nor plastic injection-molded air ducts can meet the design
freedom required for complex geometries under the hood.
In this context, a new generation of charge air heat pipes made using blow molding technology has emerged
.
DSM's Stanyl?Diablo OCD 2305 BM is a special heat-stabilized blow molding grade of Stanyl polyamide 4.
6 material designed for hot charge air ducts for extrusion blow molding to meet the needs of
the automotive market.
Compared to polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), it has a lower density and can reduce the weight of parts by 7%.
If the wall thickness is properly distributed, it can even reduce weight by more than
10%.
At the same time, it can replace metal: not only is it lighter and less expensive, but it also has better
acoustic properties.
In addition, the material is capable of withstanding continuous use temperatures
of up to 230°C.
Therefore, the material is currently ideal for
thermoplastic charge air heat pipes.
"The introduction of this new grade further completes the company's air management solutions
.
Kurt Maschke, Global Marketing Manager for Turbocharging Systems at DSM, said, "With injection moulded and blow molded grades, we are able to provide solutions
that meet all temperature requirements.
