The chemical requirements of the revised EU Toy Safety Directive come into force
Recently, the chemical requirements in the revised European Toy Safety Directive (TSD 2009/48/EC) came into effect, expanding the number of restricted migratory elements from 8 to 19, including aluminum, antimony, arsenic, barium, boron, cadmium, trivalent chromium, hexavalent chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, selenium, strontium, tin, organotin and zinc, and the limit value has also been significantly reduced
.
In addition, TSD 2009/48/EC requires companies to assess toys and perform a safety assessment before placing them on the market, such as analysing the potential chemical and non-chemical (physical, mechanical, electrical, flammable, hygienic and radiological) risks present in toys and assessing potential exposures to
such risks.
