Recently, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) conducted spot checks on 22 harmful aromatic amines in some clothing, textiles and leather goods products, and the test results showed that many clothing and one pillow contained excessive aromatic amines
.
In response, the Australian supplier implemented a voluntary recall of the problem product
.
The ACCC intends to consider restrictions
on aromatic amines.
The Federal Minister responsible for consumer protection has agreed that the ACCC will develop a solution, and the ACCC will first conduct a stakeholder incremental cost assessment and then proceed with the development of restrictive technical regulations and inform
the WTO Secretariat.
The European Union restricts 24 carcinogenic aromatic amines in the REACH regulation, requiring that the aromatic amine content in textiles and leather products should not exceed 30ppm.
