Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recently announced the launch of the $1 billion Petra Nova facility, the world's largest carbon capture project, pumping 1.
4 million tons of carbon dioxide annually from coal-fired power plants to nearby oil fields to help oil flow out of the surface

In addition, two other large U.
S.
carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects will come online
in the coming weeks.
The energy facility in Kemper County, Mississippi, will use captured carbon dioxide to recover oil, and the bioethanol plant in Illinois plans to store the captured gas in
deep underground brine aquifers.
Meanwhile, CCS facilities in Canada, including hydroelectric power stations and Shell plants, have also achieved their intended purpose
since they began operations in the first two years.
