The European Union strictly restricts the amount of BPA in toys
The European Commission issued an announcement on June 25 that for toys intended for children aged 3 and under, as well as toys that may be designed to be placed in the mouth, the migration limit of BPA through the liquid is strictly set at 0.
1 milligrams per liter to improve toy safety
.
Bisphenol A is a chemical widely used in plastic manufacturing, and is mostly found in containers and packaging such as baby bottles and beverage bottles with plastic texture
.
There is a long-standing
debate about whether BPA is a health hazard.
The European Commission said it is still conducting scientific assessments of the effects of BPA on endocrine and other aspects, and will review the existing limit directive
once new scientific conclusions are available.
It is reported that the migration limit of bisphenol A in toys through liquids has been set to no more than 0.
1 mg per liter in relevant EU standard documents, but this limit is only voluntarily implemented by the European toy industry and is not mandatory
