Novel compounds can be used in automotive radar sensors
SABIC has significantly expanded its portfolio
of specialty materials with the introduction of two new LNP-Stat-Kon radar wave absorbing compounds for automotive radar sensors.
The new grade is based on PBT resin and can be used to integrate with radomes made of PBT material, providing superior resistance to
automotive chemicals.
The new grades complement and expand SABIC's existing LNP Stat-Kon radar wave absorption compounds, which are based on polyetherimide (PEI) resins that can withstand higher processing temperatures, or polycarbonate (PC) resins that require a high balance of durability and physical properties, whose high RF absorption helps increase detection range and improve signal resolution
.
SABIC's new PBT-based LNP Stat-Kon compound has 67% RF absorption at 77GHz, which can increase ADAS capabilities
in cars.
To keep pace with the rapid development of radar sensors, SABIC is developing other grades based on new resins or with higher radar absorption properties
.
The wide selection of LNP Stat-Kon radar wave absorbing compounds can help manufacturers increase flexibility in sensor positioning and functionality, and help design sensors
that can be optimized for vehicle size and other variables.
