    BPC will shut down the BDO plant in Kuantan, Malaysia

    BASF Petrochemical (BPC), a joint venture between BASF and Petronas Petrochemical Group (PCG), a subsidiary of Petronas, is planning to realign its portfolio with an eye toward long-term growth
    , November 18.
    BASF and PCG are constantly reviewing and optimising their
    product portfolios.
    In view of this, BASF Petrochemical Malaysia plans to close its production plant
    for 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and its derivatives in Kuantan, Malaysia, in March 2021.
    The decision will not affect other plants
    at the site.
    Recently invested in several coal-based BDO production units in the region has led to significant overcapacity
