On November 7, BASF Coatings launched theAUROOMTM digital platform
.
This tool speeds up and refines the entire color design process, freeing designers from relying solely on physical vehicle samples
that need to be painted and transported.
Through the platform, designers of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can access a virtual automotive color database
with photorealistic effects.
The vast color combinations are scanned by the camera and the large amount of appearance data
generated during the scan is processed using complex mathematical models.
By applying these colors to different car models, OEM designers can virtually draw a variety of color schemes and get the most realistic feeling
of the overall vehicle color and its effects early in the design process.
BASF has also developed special virtual 3D vehicle shapes
.
InAUROOMTM, OEM designers can visually represent colors by selecting various shapes for different vehicle parts in order to assess whether the selected colors are compatible
with the overall design concept.
