New progress has been made in the research of superfolded conductive carbon materials
On October 18, a research team led by Professor Wu Qingsheng of the School of Chemical Science and Engineering of Tongji University developed a super-folded conductive carbon material (SFCM), which can withstand 1 million or even unlimited 180° true folding, which is expected to be applied to flexible electronic devices
such as foldable mobile phones.
The research team applied metamaterial design ideas and biomimetic design ideas, and used improved electrospinning/gradient carbonization technology to prepare non-destructive superfolded fiber network carbon for the first time, achieving a breakthrough
in materials.
The super-folded conductive carbon material they prepared can withstand 1 million or even unlimited 180° true folding without any microstructural damage and conductivity changes
.
They also revealed its superfolding mechanism for the first time through a self-designed scanning electron microscopy (SEM) microscopic dynamic observation system
.
Wu Qingsheng said that in the next step, they will expand this set of theories and methods to more and more ultra-foldable materials and equipment, so that flexible electronic devices such as foldable mobile phones can become free to retract, so that wearable devices can move freely and wash at will, so that origami mobile phones and computer integration can be realized
as soon as possible.
