BASF, a chemical recycling technology company for plastic waste, announced on October 7 that it will invest EUR 20 million ($17.
7 million) in QuantaFuel, a Norwegian company
for pyrolysis and pyrolysis oil purification of plastic waste, to further develop QuantaFuel chemical recovery technology, including an integrated process
for pyrolysis and purification.
QuantaFuel plans to open a pyrolysis and purification plant
with an annual capacity of about 16,000 tons in Skive, Denmark, in the fourth quarter of 2019.
As part of the investment agreement, BASF will have priority access to all pyrolysis oils and purified hydrocarbons
at the plant for at least 4 years after the start of operation at QuantaFuel's Skive plant.
BASF will use these secondary raw materials in its ChemCycling project to develop the market
for chemically recycled plastics together with selected customers.
BASF's goal is to offer selected customers the first commercially available products
based on chemically recycled plastic waste.
