Air Products to acquire Shell coal gasification business On January 10, Air Products announced that it has reached an agreement with Shell to acquire Shell's coal gasification business
and patented range
of residue gasification technologies.
Financial terms are not disclosed and the acquisition is expected to close
in the coming months.
"Shell's technology is already in use in more than 20 coal gasification plants, and through the acquisition, we have access to and the opportunity to fully explore the possibility of outsourcing syngas production and supply to serve
customers planning to use the gasification process," said Germin, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Products.
The acquisition is in line with Air Products' long-standing strategic focus of offering a full range of industrial gases and does not represent a shift in strategy toward technology licensing
