According to an announcement from Iran's Ministry of Oil, an ethylene pipeline project in Iran has broken ground in Tabriz, in the northwest of the country, with a total length of 154 kilometers and a design to transport 200,000 tons of ethylene to Tabriz from Miandoab, Iran, at a construction cost of about $52 million, which will be used to produce a series of petrochemicals
.
Iran is planning to build a petrochemical plant near Tabriz in northwestern Iran and build the region into a petrochemical production center
, the announcement said.
The Tabriz petrochemical plant already has a capacity of 350,000 mt and is expected to double
its capacity when the pipeline project is completed and commissioned in March 2020, the oil ministry said.
Iran's oil ministry said the new ethylene supply is expected to help the plant start-up new styrene-butadiene, styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer and polybutadiene rubber plants, while increasing production
of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and 2-pentane.
