Honeywell and United invest in carbon-negative fuels
Honeywell today announced that it will make a multimillion-dollar joint investment
with United Airlines (United) in cleantech start-up Alder Fuels (Alder).
Alder is enabling large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)
by converting abundant biomass feedstocks such as forests and crop waste into a sustainable and low-carbon direct alternative to crude oil through new technologies.
Throughout the fuel lifecycle, Alder's technology, combined with Honeywell's EcofiningTM process, produces carbon-negative fuels with performance comparable to current aviation fuel standards, achieving the goal of
a complete replacement for petroleum aviation fuel.
Under the agreement, United committed to purchase approximately 5.
7 billion liters (1.
5 billion US gallons) of sustainable aviation fuel from Alder in accordance with United's requirements, 1.
5 times
the total known commitment of all airlines in the world.
