Clariant and Enviral sign a cellulosic ethanol technology license agreement, Clarian and bioethanol producer Enviral announced that they have signed a license agreement
for Sunliquid?cellulosic ethanol technology.
The latter received a technology license from Clariant to build a fully commercial cellulosic ethanol plant using its Sunliquid® technology for the commercial production
of cellulosic ethanol from agricultural waste.
The new plant is owned and will be operated
by Enviral.
The plant is planned to be integrated with Enviral's existing plant at its Leopoldov site in Slovakia and is expected to produce 50,000 tons of cellulosic ethanol
per year.
The plant will use Clariant's Sunliquid® technology and starter cultures derived from its proprietary cellulase and yeast platforms to process Enviral's feedstock into cellulosic ethanol
.
To ensure effective and efficient compatibility, Clariant and Enviral carried out extensive tests of Enviral's raw materials at the former's Sunliquid® demonstration plant in Straubing, Germany, with excellent results and laid the foundation for
the final establishment of the project.
Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2017, followed by a detailed engineering study
before construction begins.
To further commercialize Sunliquid's technology, Clariant decided to establish a new biofuels business chain within its Catalysts business area, responsible for the further overall expansion of the biofuels business and reporting on
business performance 。 Christian Kohlpaintner, Executive Committee Member of Clariant, said: "We are pleased to announce the first technology licensing agreement for Sunliquid® technologies, which marks our official entry into the market and the successful commercialization
of this highly innovative and sustainable technology.
