Bayer and Ginkgo form a joint venture for
microbial nitrogen fixation, Bayer announced on September 14 that Bayer's Life Science Center business and biocompany Ginkgo Bioworks have formed a new company
.
The new company will focus on improving farmers' fertilizer efficiency and reducing nitrogen use through the use of bio-based solutions, a $100 million investment from Bayer and Viking global investors, with more details not yet to be disclosed
.
The new company's business will focus on plant parasitic microorganisms, focusing on microbial nitrogen fixation pathways
that help crops and soils fix nitrogen in the atmosphere and other sources.
The goal of the study is to study microorganisms in crops and soil more extensively, and to use the nitrogen fixation effect of microorganisms to reduce fertilizer
inputs.
