Dow retrofits Louisiana cracker
Aug.
20, Dow announced that it will add proprietary fluidized catalytic dehydrogenation (FCDh) technology to its hybrid feed cracker in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to produce specialty propylene
.
The retrofit will increase Dow's full-year dedicated propylene production by 100,000 tons, allowing Dow's derivative facilities to enjoy cost-competitive propylene while maintaining ethylene production capacity to meet the growing needs
of consumer, infrastructure and packaging end-market businesses.
The project is expected to start production of specialized propylene
by the end of 2021.
Keith Cleason, vice president of Dow's olefins, aromatics and alternatives business, said: "Deploying FCDh technology allows Dow to continue to focus on delivering low-risk, low-cost and high-return projects while reducing the energy intensity and carbon footprint
associated with traditional technologies.
