The European Parliament recently passed a new bill
restricting the use of plastic bags.
The bill mainly targets thin and light plastic bags
with a thickness of less than 0.
05 mm, which are currently widely used in the EU.
Such plastic bags are not only difficult to recycle, but also often pollute
oceans and rivers.
According to the new regulations, the EU has two ways to achieve its goals: one is to reduce the per capita consumption of young thin plastic bags to 90 per year by 2019 and 40 by 2025; The second is to ensure that retailers do not provide thin and light plastic bags
to consumers free of charge by 2018.
Critics argue that the rules are not operational and that EU member states should have the right to decide on their own plans
to reduce the use of such plastic bags.
