Clariant and Eta Bio sign a cellulosic ethanol technology license agreement
Clariant and Pavlovi family business Eta Bio announced on August 5 that they have signed a sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol technology license agreement
.
The project includes the licensing of the sunliquid® basic process package, the provision of technical services, and the supply of specialty microorganisms for the preparation of Clariant's proprietary enzymes and yeasts to process Eta Bio's feedstock into cellulosic ethanol
.
Eta Bio will use available land owned by the Pavlovi family, as well as existing infrastructure, to develop the project and operate the plant in a green space in the village of General Toshevo in northeastern Bulgaria
.
It is planned to have an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons/year of cellulosic ethanol and about
250,000 tons/year of processed wheat straw.
The cellulosic ethanol produced will be used as a gasoline additive to meet the country's blending requirements
for advanced biofuels set out in the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) II.
