India's Petronet plans to build an LNG terminal in Bangladesh Petronet LNG announced today that it has submitted a formal proposal to invest $1 billion to build an onshore LNG terminal in Bangladesh
.
If the proposal is approved, India has committed to building the facility
within three years.
The facility has the capacity to receive 7.
5 million tons of LNG
per year.
The formal proposal also plans the main ways in
which imported liquefied gas will be supplied to the consumer market after the completion of the LNG terminal.
The receiving terminal will supply natural gas
through the planned pipeline to the proposed 1,000 MW combined cycle power plant and existing power plants in Raozan and Hikapahar.
Prabat Singh, the company's president and chief executive, said, "The current proposal is a formal plan involving technical and economic details, including fees
that the Bangladeshi government needs to approve.
Once the Bangladeshi government accepts the proposal, the two countries will sign a formal agreement
