ELECTROACTIVE LAMINATED SILICONES HAVE BECOME GENERALISTS
WACKER HAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT WILL PRESENT FOR THE FIRST TIME A NEW LAMINATED SILICONE
WITH ELECTROACTIVE PROPERTIES CALLED NEXIPAL® AT THIS YEAR'S INTERNATIONAL PLASTICS AND RUBBER EXPO K 2019.
The product is laminated from an ultra-thin silicone precision film laminated with multiple layers of conductive material and can be used
as a motion actuator when voltage is applied.
Each film of the NEXIPAL® is placed between the flexible electrodes, and as soon as a voltage is applied, the positive and negative charge carriers of the electrode attract each other, deforming the silicone film between the two electrodes
.
At this point, the film becomes thinner, longer and wider
.
After discharge, the recovery force of this highly elastic film restores the original shape
of the NEXIPAL® laminate.
This process can be repeated countless times
.
In addition, any mechanical action changes the capacitance of the laminate, so NEXIPAL® can be used as a sensor
for measuring mechanical deformation.
These two functions make NEXIPAL® laminated silicones a true all-rounder, making them attractive
in innovative applications in medical technology, sensors and robotics, as well as in adjusting the orientation of automotive mirrors or headlamps.
