Total Energies and Veolia will
Collaboration in the development of next-generation biofuels
According to World Gas on July 6, Total Energies and Veolia plan to carry out a four-year research project at the La Mède biorefinery operated by Total Energies, with the goal of producing biofuels
.
With the long-term goal of producing biofuels, the project will establish a testbed to compare different microalgae growth systems and determine the most effective ones
.
Microalgae grow
by harnessing sunlight and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere or industrial processes.
After growing to a certain amount, the microalgae mature and are able to serve as feedstock
for the next generation of biofuels with a low carbon footprint.
Total Energies will offer its expertise
in cultivating and refining biomass to produce advanced biofuels and CO2 capture and utilization technologies.
Veolia will use its expertise in the water sector to optimize the environmental management of microalgae water and develop algal biomass as an effective solution for
carbon dioxide capture.
