On July 6, Huntsman announced that it would close a titanium dioxide plant in South Africa with an existing capacity of 25,000 tons in the fourth quarter of 2016
.
The plant closure is expected to generate approximately $200 million in cash repatriation
for Huntsman over the next two years.
With approximately 140 employees, the South African plant is the smallest and oldest titanium dioxide plant
in Huntsman's pigment additives division.
According to the plan, the plant will continue production until the fourth quarter of 2016, after which Huntsman will supply
customers in the region from its titanium dioxide plant in Europe.
