Honeywell UOP sorbents are used to remove radioactive material from contaminated water

Honeywell UOP today announced that its advanced adsorbent material, IONSIV?selective media adsorbent, has been successfully used to remove radioactive material
from nearly 100 million gallons of contaminated water at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

IONSIV?selective media adsorbents are crystalline substances that selectively remove radioactive ions from liquids , especially cesium and strontium
    .
The product family has been in commercial use for more than 30 years and is primarily designed to remove radioactive ions
from radioactive vapors, soda tank waste and spent fuel storage tanks from operating nuclear power plants.
Since August 2011, this selective media adsorbent has been used by Toshiba Corporation and Shaw Global Services in the Simplified Active Water Recovery and Recovery System (SARRY) to treat water contaminated
by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
To date, the material has successfully reduced the content of radioactive material cesium to undetectable levels
    .

Fukushima decontamination is still ongoing, and the IONSIV series of adsorbents is expected to continue to be used to treat all types of contaminated water to remove radioactive materials
such as cesium and strontium over the next decade.
