Raymond and Deakin University sign carbon fiber licensing agreement
with Raymond Composites (Oak Ridge, Tenn.
) A 20-year, $44 million exclusive manufacturing license agreement has been signed with Deakin University in Australia to commercialize the production process of its patent application to enable low-cost, high-performance carbon fiber production
.
Raymond Composites is about to enter into its first supply agreement with a commercial customer and expects to begin manufacturing and selling carbon fiber materials
using the new process in September 2017.
According to the agreement, Deakin University will deliver low-cost carbon fiber products in a standardized format that meets the requirements of
today's composites industry.
This year, Raymond expects to begin building a new commercial carbon fiber facility
in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
In addition, Raymond Composites will also consider building a carbon fiber manufacturing plant in Geelong, Australia, and will invest more than $30 million to build the plant and purchase equipment
.
The plant's dedicated carbon fiber production machinery will be manufactured
by Victoria Clayton Furnace Engineering.
