Arkema has
announced an agreement with agribusiness Nutrien for the long-term supply of anhydrous hydrofluoric acid (AHF) to its Kentucky plant, about half of which will be used to produce high value-added polymers and fluorine derivatives, and the rest for the production of low GWP (global warming potential) fluorine gases
.
The raw material is key to the manufacture of
fluorine chemicals such as fluoropolymers and specialty derivatives.
As part of the agreement, Arkema will invest $150 million in Nutrien's 40,000-tonne-per-year AHF facility in North Carolina, scheduled to start production
in the first half of 2022.
In addition to being good for the environment, the partnership has other important benefits
.
Against the backdrop of increasingly tight supply of fluorite mining and AHF, the project is particularly committed to ensuring a stable supply of AHF at competitive prices and supporting the continuous development of new applications, especially in the fields of
batteries, 5G electronics and water treatment.
