Air Products will invest about $2 billion to build a world-class coal-to-methanol
plant
in Bangarong, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The company said it has signed a definitive agreement for a long-term on-site contract to establish, own and operate air separation, gasification, syngas purification, utilities and methanol production units to produce methanol
.
The coal feedstock for the facility will be used by PT Bakrie Capital Indonesia and PT.

With Air Products' proprietary Syngas Solutions dry feed gasifier, nearly 2 million tons of methanol
are expected to be produced annually from nearly 6 million tons of coal.
The project is expected to start production
in 2024.
