Recently, with the support of Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, International Composite, Chongqing University and Chongqing University of Technology jointly developed two new materials
: CNG (compressed natural gas) high-pressure gas cylinder glass fiber yarn and high-performance long glass fiber.
Previously, the two materials used in China were mainly produced by foreign companies such as OCV and PPG, which filled the domestic gap and broke the monopoly position
of foreign companies in this field.
Glass fiber is an inorganic non-metallic material with good insulation, strong heat resistance and strong corrosion resistance, and its components are silica, alumina, etc
.
It is made
of mineral raw materials through high-temperature melting, wire drawing and other processes.
The diameter of its monofilament is from a few microns to more than twenty microns, equivalent to 1/20~1/5 of a hair, and each bundle of fiber precursors is composed of hundreds or even thousands of monofilaments, usually as a reinforcing material
in composite materials.
According to reports, CNG high-pressure gas cylinder glass fiber yarn is wound on the outside of the vehicle CNG cylinder, which can not only prevent it from rusting, but also the inner tank of the cylinder can be made thinner because of the stronger impact resistance, and the overall weight can be reduced by 40%~55%.
The high-performance long glass fiber developed this time is mainly used to reduce the weight
of automotive parts.
The impact resistance of this material is comparable to steel, but the weight is 2/3 lighter than steel, and the price is about
40% cheaper than the equivalent weight of magnesium aluminum alloy.
A variety of parts such as seat pelvis, dashboard, and door panels on the car can be made of this material, and the weight of a vehicle can be reduced by about
50 kilograms.
Since the development of glass fiber in the 30s of the last century, it has been used in more than 50,000 downstream products in Europe and the United States, while less than 10,000 in
China.
The huge gap shows the development potential of glass fiber and its broad application prospects
.
