France's Total, Austria's Borealis and Canada's Nova Chemicals announced the completion
of a petrochemical joint venture on the U.
S.
Gulf Coast, after obtaining all necessary regulatory approvals.
The joint venture, Bayport Polymers (Bay-Pol), is 50 percent owned by Total and the other 50 percent by Novelis Holding
, a joint venture between Borealis and Nova Chemicals.
Diane Chamberlain has been appointed chairman of the
new company.
The joint venture includes a new 1 million ton steam cracker in Port Arthur, Texas, Total's existing 400,000-ton polyethylene plant in Bayport, Texas, and a new 625,000-ton Borstar polyethylene plant at Total's Bayport, Texas plant
pending further approval.
