On May 21, Cabot announced that it will significantly expand its global carbon black production capacity
.
Cabot will expand its global carbon black capacity by at least 300,000 tons
through plant expansions, operational improvements and debottlenecking projects.
Bart Kalkstein, senior vice president and president of global functional reinforcements, said: "With the expansion, Cabot will continue to meet the growing needs
of customers around the world with industry-leading carbon black products.
Cabot
will expand its Cilegon plant in Indonesia, adding approximately 160,000 tons of carbon black capacity
.
Its expanded capacity is expected to be on the market
in late 2020 or early 2021.
In addition to the expansion of the Celegon plant, Cabot will invest approximately $50 million in debottlenecking projects and operational improvement projects
at 18 other carbon black production plants around the world.
With these projects, Cabot will also add 150,000 tons of capacity to meet customer needs
in the tires, industrial rubber products and specialty carbon blacks sectors.
At present, Cabot has completed about 1/3 of the project, and expects to complete all projects
in 2021.
With these investments, Cabot's total global carbon black capacity will increase to approximately 2.
5 million tonnes
