ECHA is seeking public comment on the 9th batch of 10 SVHCs
Recently, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) proposed to add 10 substances to the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) Candidate List and launched a 45-day public consultation on this list, which is expected to close on April 18, 2013
.
The 10 substances are: (1) cadmium and cadmium oxide, which are carcinogenic or potentially dangerous to human health and receive equal attention; (2) Di-n-pentyl phthalate, ammonium pentafluorooctanoate and perfluorooctanoic acid with reproductive toxicity, of which perfluorooctanoic acid is also persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic; (3) branched or linear nonylphenols of equal interest; (4) 2-(2'-hydroxy-3'-isobutyl-5'-tert-butylphenyl)-benzotriazole, 2-(2'-hydroxy-3',5'-di-tert-pentylphenyl)-benzotriazole, 2-(2'-hydroxy-3',5'-di-tert-butylphenyl)-5-chlorobenzotriazole and 2-(2'-hydroxy-3',5'-di-tert-butylphenyl)-benzotriazole, these four substances are highly persistent, highly bioaccumulative and toxic.
The inclusion of the above 10 substances in the candidate list is based on the consideration
that they are "toxic to specific target organs in the case of repeated exposure".
