Mars and Nestlé recently announced a partnership with packaging solutions company Citeo, Total and recycling technology provider Recycling Technologies to develop an industrial-scale chemical recycling process
for plastic packaging in France.
The collaboration is to investigate chemical recycling processes for plastics that are currently considered non-recyclable, before they are sent to incineration or disposal
in landfills.
These companies work together to develop recycling solutions
for multi-layered food-grade packaging from all parts of the plastic packaging value chain.
Bernard Pinatel, President of Total's Refining and Chemicals business, said: "Chemical recycling is a perfect complement
to our existing mechanical recycling activities.
This collaboration, which involves key players in the packaging value chain, is an important step towards
achieving 30% recyclable polymer production by 2030.
