Total Launches Development of Brazil's Giant Oilfield
Recently, Total announced that it has made an investment decision
for the large-scale development of the first phase of the Libra project in Brazil's deep sea.
The Libra block is located in the pre-salt region of the Brazilian Santos Basin, 180 km
off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The first phase of large-scale development, consisting of a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit with 150,000 barrels of oil capacity and 17 production wells, will take place
in the northwest of the Libra block.
In November 2017, the first oil was produced from the Libra field, which means that 50,000 barrels of Libra Vanguard FPSO was launched from the early production stage to further evaluation of the field and generation of early revenue
.
As the next step in the development of this large oil field, the newly built Metro 1 FPSO is expected to be put into production
in 2021.
Development will continue in the coming years, with at least 3 FPSOs working together to develop the large field
.
