On June 18, INVISTA Nylon Chemical (China) Co.
, Ltd.
(hereinafter referred to as "INVISTA") announced the establishment of a new Asia-Pacific R&D center in Shanghai.
The unveiling ceremony of the project was held in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) on the same day
.
INVISTA said that the Asia-Pacific R&D Center will focus on the demand for engineering polymer applications in key fields such as automobiles and electronic appliances
.
The center is scheduled to open in late 2021
.
It is worth noting that this is INVISTA's first nylon 6,6 application R&D center in Asia.
The project investment exceeds 95 million yuan (about 15 million US dollars), marking INVISTA's perfection of nylon 6,6 in China.
Another important milestone in the value chain to better serve the evolving needs of customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region
.
INVISTA Asia Pacific R&D Center will be located in Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone, becoming one of the first projects to be settled in Shanghai International Innovation Center for Chemical New Materials (INNOGREEN)
.
According to reports, the center covers an area of about 2,500 square meters and will be equipped with advanced polymer research and development equipment to provide customers with testing services while boosting the development of polymer applications
.
The center also has polymer modification extrusion pelletizing and injection molding capabilities, as well as laboratory equipment for resin analysis and testing
.
The center is located near INVISTA's integrated nylon 6,6 production site in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park
.
According to INVISTA, this will help enhance the company's comprehensive capabilities in nylon 6,6 R&D, production, sales, and technical services in China, and provide customers with high-quality nylon products and solutions
.
The term "nylon" originated in the 1930s to refer to a certain type of synthetic fiber made entirely of chemical raw materials
.
INVISTA's nylon 6,6 fibers are used in parachutes, tire cords and many other applications due to their moisture and mildew resistance, high strength, high melting temperature and durability
.
Nylon 6,6 engineering plastics are widely used in automotive, electronics, home appliances and consumer markets
.
"China's nylon 6,6 market and related applications are increasingly important to INVISTA's global business development," said Pete Brown, executive vice president of INVISTA's nylon polymer business
.
The establishment of the Asia-Pacific R&D Center in Shanghai also demonstrates our commitment to meeting the strong demand for high-quality nylon products from customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region
.
”
"In the process of INVISTA's continuous expansion of the research and development scope of engineering polymer applications, innovation has always been the focus of both us and our customers
.
By setting up the Asia-Pacific R&D Center, we hope to quickly respond to the needs of local customers and help the development of downstream applications.
” said Dou Fangfang, business director of nylon intermediates in INVISTA Asia
.
INVISTA, part of Koch Industries, is one of the world's largest integrated producers of chemical intermediates, polymers and fibers
.
Its products are used in every aspect of daily life, from carpet fibers and clothing fabrics, to plastics in automobiles and electrical appliances
.
