INEOS Styrolution has launched new NAS®ECO and Luran®ECO sustainable products based on the ISCC PLUS certified mass balance process
.
These products are based on the production of styrene from renewable feedstocks that do not compete with food production, such as kitchen waste and wood waste
.
Compared to petrochemicals, the carbon footprint of the new product is reduced by between 77% and 99%, depending on the amount of renewable feedstock used to produce the material
.
Eike Jahnke, Vice President Specialty EMEA, said: “These new products expand our portfolio of specialty styrene products based on mass balance
.
Together with our previously launched Styrolux® ECO and Styroflex® ECO ranges, we are now able to provide our four A professional product line for customers with sustainable embedded solutions
.
”
The production of the new material will take place in Ludwigshafen, Germany
.
Luran® and NAS® are clear styrene specialty materials supplied by INEOS Styrolution
.
Luran® is a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) with a good balance of properties, clarity, chemical resistance, high stiffness, heat resistance and dimensional stability
.
These properties make them the material of choice for a variety of household and cosmetic packaging applications
.
NAS® is a rigid, amorphous styrene methyl methacrylate (SMMA) copolymer suitable for applications requiring high clarity such as water tanks, displays, food containers
.
NAS® has an excellent clear appearance, very low haze and good heat and chemical resistance
.
The optical properties of NAS® are similar to PMMA, while NAS® offers density and processing advantages compared to acrylic solutions
.
