Indonesia aims to add 4.
7 GW of solar capacity by 2030 under its new Electricity Purchase Program (RUPTL), which will increase the contribution
of renewables to the mix.
The RUPTL plan for the period 2021-2030 aims to achieve a renewable energy share
of 51.
6% in new capacity.
There are no new coal plans
other than coal already committed or under construction (about 14 GW).
According to RUPTL, the new capacity installed over the next decade is 40.
6 GW.
Due to the limited investment capacity of the national utility PLN, Indonesia plans to allow greater participation by independent power producers (IPPs
).
By 2030, the share of renewable energy planned to increase in the national structure could reach 25%.
At the end of 2020, it was 14%, and the country aims to reach 23%
by 2025.
"As the cost of building solar power systems becomes lower and the construction time becomes faster, in order to achieve the target of 23% renewable energy by 2025, the share of solar power systems will be higher
than the RUPTL plan.
In addition, overall renewable energy targets can also be achieved through co-firing biomass from coal-fired power plants, with due consideration for the environment
when providing feedstock.
The power plan also envisages greater interconnection between Indonesian islands, a diesel-free program and other measures
.
