Recently, the President of Indonesia inaugurated
the country's first wind farm in South Sulawesi.
The plant has a total capacity of 75 MW and consists of
30 wind turbines.
As Indonesia's first wind turbine project, it is expected to be able to power 70,000 customers in the South Sulawesi region with an average power of 900 VA
.
The realization of the plant is the government's efforts to increase the use of
renewable energy.
Indonesia aims to get 23% of its energy by 2023 from renewable sources
such as wind, geothermal, or solar.
The project is located in South Sulawesi and covers an area of 100 hectares
.
Of these, the 30 wind turbines are all 80 meters high, while the propellers are 57 meters
long.
At the same time, the construction of the plant provided employment for about 1,150 people
.
In addition, 40 per cent of the materials used to build the plant are procured
domestically.
PLN's director of human capital management said the company is working so that the new power plant can immediately supply energy to local communities
.
At the same time, the new power supply also means that South Sulawesi's investment climate has become more attractive, as one of the main complaints from investors (within Indonesia) lacks sufficient energy supply
.
The projects are part of the central government's aim to increase the country's electrification rate, which currently stands at 96 percent and 99 percent by 2019 (South Sulawesi's electrification rate is now over 99 percent).
