India currently has renewable energy projects with a capacity of 46,500 MW to increase capacity
, according to reports.
This includes projects currently under construction as well as projects
that may be tendered soon.
Mr.
Anand Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, said at an industry event, "We have installed 73.
35 GW, with projects worth 21.
5 GW in various stages of implementation and another 25 GW in various tender stages
.
”
He added that India has promised the world that 40 percent of its power generation capacity will come from non-fossil fuels by 2030 and 175 GW of renewable energy
by 2022.
Targets include 100 MW of solar, 60 GW of wind projects and 10 GW of small hydro projects
.
Experts say the success of the program will depend on a variety of factors
.
Ankur Agarwal, senior analyst at India's Ratings and Research Department, said the depreciation of the rupee and the increase in safeguard duty could increase tariffs and evacuate infrastructure remains a challenge
.
Mr Agarwal said, "The best windy locations are mainly concentrated in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, and availability of most windy locations remains a challenge
.
In addition, they compete with solar to evacuate infrastructure, as many windy places also have good solar resources
.
Turbine manufacturers also pose a threat, as they are also operators
in most cases.
”
With the support of the new floating solar power scheme, the grant of manufacturing-related solar projects and offshore wind projects, the Indian government will achieve its renewable energy target
of 175 GW.
