According to Business Line, India's renewable energy sector added 1,541 MW of new solar capacity in the first quarter of this fiscal year, compared to 1,059 MW
in the same period last year.
During the April-June 2018 period (826 MW), the solar sector continued to be the main contributor to capacity addition, accounting for 1,371 MW (1,215.
57 MW for ground installations and 155.
77 MW for rooftops).
India's total installed capacity of renewable grids stood at 71,325 MW (58,303 MW)
as of June 30, 2018, according to the Ministry of Joint New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Wind power has a total capacity of 34,293 MW, followed by solar power with a total capacity of 23,023 MW (ground installation and rooftop).
The total capacity of the biomass (including bagasse and non-bagasse cogeneration) segment is 9,378 MW
.
Small hydropower plants and waste-to-energy accounted for 4,493 MW and 138 MW
, respectively.
A recent report by solar consultancy Bridge to India noted that solar power activity will slow
significantly in the coming quarters due to a decline in new tender issuance in late 2016 and early 2017.
