India's state power company, NTPC, has announced that a quarter of its electricity generation will be based
on renewable energy by 2030.
By 2032, total electricity generation will grow from the current 62 gigawatts (GW) to 130 GW.
"In line with global clean energy trends, renewables are a cleaner source of energy, and NTPC plans to generate 32,000 megawatts (MW) by the beginning of the next decade through renewable energy or 25% of its entire power mix
.
"
Currently, the company is implementing 2,404 MW of renewable energy projects, of which 237 MW come from floating solar projects
located in NTPC's existing power station reservoirs.
"The gradual shift to renewable energy is part of NTPC's
commitment to sustainable power generation and environmental protection," the company said.
”
Emphasizing the importance of the environment, the company is working to generate electricity from agricultural residues to prevent the burning of crop residues in the field, and has also pioneered the co-firing of biomass pellets with coal in boilers to reduce emissions
