Meghmani Finechem Limited (MFL), a manufacturer of chlor-alkali and its value-added derivatives, announced the successful commissioning of a 50,000 t/y epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant
.
Despite the challenging external environment, the factory started production on time without any cost overruns, a testament to the company's strong project execution capabilities
.
Commenting on ECH, MFL Chairman and Managing Director Maulik Patel said, "I am very pleased to announce that we have commissioned India's first ECH plant based on the glycerol process, where the main raw material, glycerol, is a 100% renewable resource
.
As a result of this process, will have lower energy and water consumption and will save on carbon footprint
.
"I would like to congratulate our project team for commissioning the plant within the promised timeline and projected capex limits, even during the and post-COVID inflationary environment and challenging environment
.
Meghmani Finechem is the first company in India to commission an ECH factory - a product that is currently fully imported
.
In India, about 80% of ECH is used in epoxy resin manufacturing, which is also used in coatings, automotive, building materials, windmills, adhesives, electronics and other industries
.
The remaining 20% of ECH is used in the pharmaceutical industry, water treatment and paper chemicals, and its demand is also expected to grow significantly
.
Indirect demand for ECH is expected to grow substantially with the GOI's increasing focus on infrastructure development and the expectation of increased consumption in India
.
The current demand for ECH in India is about 80,000 tons/year, but considering the growth and new production capacity of epoxy resin in the next few years, we expect the demand for ECH in India to increase significantly in the next 2-3 years, in addition, the normal demand for ECH It is expected to grow by around 10% over the next five years
.
Global demand for ECH is expected to grow by 4% to 5%
.
India's epoxy resin production capacity is 126,000 tons/year, and ECH raw materials are dependent on imports
.
India is the largest export destination of China's ECH: in 2021, the total export volume of China's ECH will be 46,790 tons, of which 4,038 tons will be exported to India
.
