Solar Energy Corporation of India's tender for the supply of uninterrupted renewable energy was
oversubscribed.
Specifically, Solar Energy Corporation of India has publicly tendered for 400 MW of stable renewable energy, which aims to provide round-the-clock supply of renewable energy
to two small jurisdictions in the country with no electricity production assets.
So far, three companies have submitted bids to build this capability
.
Greenko Energy Holdings and ReNew Power each bid for the entire 400 MW of generating capacity, while Ayana Renewables bid for 50 MW.
Developers are free to set up solar, wind or hybrid projects with storage capacity to ensure a stable supply of renewable energy
.
This is the first tender of its kind to increase the share
of renewables in India's electricity mix.
Over the past few years, India has issued a number of solar tenders
.
However, the disadvantage of solar energy is that it cannot supply electricity
at night and during peak hours at night.
These tenders were launched to address this particular problem
.
Greenko Energy Holdings and ReNew Power recently won another tender issued by Solar Energy Corporation of India, requiring developers to use peak-season renewable energy projects to ensure a guaranteed power supply
.
Greenko Energy has the rights to develop 900 MW of capacity, while ReNew Power has secured an order
for 300 MW of capacity.
Solar Energy Corporation of India is expected to issue more such tenders
in the coming months and years.
These tenders will lead to a dramatic increase
in the share of renewables in India's electricity mix.
