The scheme, to be implemented by the Energy Efficiency Services Corporation of India, will help expand the deployment of energy efficiency measures in the residential and public sectors, strengthen the institutional capacity of companies, and enhance their access to commercial financing

The $220 million loan has a five-year grace period with a maturity period of 19 years

A joint statement by the World Bank and Energy Efficiency Services India said that "the three parties signed a $220 million loan agreement and an $80 million guarantee agreement for India's Energy Efficiency Scale-up Program.
"
Investments under the program will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 170 million tonnes of CO2 and contribute to the need for 10 GW of additional power generation capacity
.
This would exceed 50 percent
of the national 19.
