India will implement the Coal Import Monitoring System (CIMS), which requires coal importers to submit advance information and obtain an automatic registration number
in the online import system, from February 1.

According to the notice, imports of anthracite, bituminous coal, coking coal and thermal coal will be subject
to CIMS.
"Importers can apply for registration
60 days and no later than the 15th day before the arrival of the expected date of the imported goods," the Directorate-General General of Foreign Trade of India said.

The government has established an import monitoring system, called SIMS, for many steels, which can monitor imports and boost domestic manufacturing

For CIMS, the automatic registration number is valid for 75 days, and the importer must enter the registration number and the validity period of the registration in the entry form in order for customs clearance of consignment
.
