White House press secretary Jane Psaki warned on March 15 that India was on the wrong side
of history if it bought Russian oil.
However, British media found that India's oil imports to Russia in March were surging
in March.
Since March, Russia has exported 360,000 barrels of oil a day to India, almost four times
the 2021 average, according to the Financial Times on March 18.
Data from commodity data analytics firm Kpler shows that Russia's average daily production in March is expected to reach 203,000 barrels
in March, according to the current shipping schedule.
Indian Boundary Capital analyst Vivikanan Subalaman said: "Due to the high cost of transportation, Indian companies have not purchased much
oil from Russia before.
But that seems to be changing
now.
