According to a new report by EEVS Insight and Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), the second quarter of 2018 saw a surge
in the number of global projects incorporating building energy management system (BEMS) technology.
In the second quarter, global building energy management system technology projects increased by 57% year-on-year
The report shows that BEMS technology is gradually narrowing the gap
with LED lighting.
LED lighting has historically been the most commonly used energy efficiency technology
.
BEMS technology uses computer systems to control, monitor, measure and optimize technical services and energy consumption
.
In the second quarter of this year, the proportion of projects containing BEMS technology was 57%
higher than the 42% in the same period last year.
Energy-efficient lighting remains the dominant technology for deployment, with 69% of energy efficiency projects installing LEDs
.
BEMS technology is most popular in large organizations, with 94% of such projects being implemented
by organizations with more than 1,000 employees.
Sam Stageman, Sales Director at APC Lighting, said: "We are now seeing an expanded use of BEMS as companies look to maximize return on investment
by using data to highlight opportunities for additional savings.
When combined with gas, electricity, and energy usage data from other processes, such as cooling, the system is able to provide a more complete picture that is more beneficial
to the user.
